JULY 2016
Location: Scarlet & Grey Cafe (Columbus, OH)
Open Mic Winner: Infinite Capacity
Specialty:  Hip Hop
Interviewed by:  Qamil

Q.  What do you bring to the music table?
A. Energy and intellect.

Q. How would you describe your style as an artist?
A. Fast paced realism, combined with intensity and heart.

Q. Who IS Infinite Capacity?

A. Justin Kirkpatrick. I thrive under pressure and bring the heat every time. Consistency is crucial. I have an insatiable need to reach the ears of the masses. I wear my heart and my mind on my sleeve, a sleeve that happens to be guarded by transparency. You can see them, but good luck touching them.

Q.  How did you get your start in music?
A. I was raised by a musician, my father Rodney Kirkpatrick II, and a beautiful mother, Dianna Wilson. I picked up the musical roots brewed by my father and rolled with them. I took up drumming at 12 years old when my father bought me a drum set so I wouldn’t bug him in the garage when he was working on cars. At the age of 16 I started IT Media at the Wayne County Schools Career Center. I found a niche in the rap scene at the career center and made friends that put me in a position to produce instrumentals and it grew on me so quickly that I had my own set up in a matter of weeks. From there on out I was hooked and started free-styling in local cyphers in Wooster, and Orrville Ohio. They weren’t big gatherings, but they did do the trick to help get my bars up and my mentals on the right level. By the time I was 17 I was writing full songs and fitting them with self-produced beats, as time went on the grind became a routine, a job, and even now, at 27, I’m still grinding to be heard, to get my energy and message to the right crowd and expedite this inevitable rising that is coming.

Q.  Who inspires you?
A. Mostly my father, my daughter, always. My motivation comes from seeing her happy. Musically I’d say that Tech N9ne is prominent, simply because he has the hardest grind and biggest ambition I’ve ever seen.

Q . If you could have a dinner party and discuss music with 5 artists (dead or alive) who would be at that table?
A.
1. Timbaland
2. Dr. Dre
3. Tech N9ne
4. Ludacris
5. Royce da 5’ 9”

Q. If you could go on a world tour right now, what other artist would you want to take with you?
A. I’m a Technician; I’d have to roll with Strange Music Tour.

Q. What music are you listening to now? What’s spinning in your world?
A.Busta Rhymes’ Return of the Dragon Mixtape ; Kendrick Lamar | J Cole – Black Friday (Insane Track)

Grind Mode Cyphers

Q. What is your favorite album of all time?
A. Led Zeppelin – Houses of the Holy

Q. What is your favorite part about being an artist?
A.  The feeling of looking out at people rocking with you while you’re on stage, and also, the feeling of when you know you are mixing down a fire track, the adrenaline that comes along with it.

Q. When people see you perform what do you want them to take away?

A.  That they just watched a dude kill the microphone whit a ridiculous amount of intensity, heart and passion.

Q.  What has been your biggest challenge as an artist?
A.  Getting noticed by the right people. OR at that, having the time to put forth maximum effort while raising a young daughter ( 5 yr.) and having a full time career. Capital investment funds would be my final answer.

Q.  What is your absolute favorite song to perform?

A.  Shuck and Jive (Will be featured in the upcoming Soul Dope Sunday performance)

Q. Favorite meal?
A, Salmon filet w/asparagus and fully loaded baked potato

Q. Favorite movie?

A. The Matrix Trilogy

Q. Favorite Hip-Hop album?

A. Tech N9ne- All 6's and 7's

Q. Tell me something about yourself that would surprise people.
A.  I'm a "Metal-Head"  I love heavy metal music (Melodic, core, many subgenre's) Examples: Killswitch Engage, I Am Abomination, Volumes, Memphis May Fire, Make Them Suffer

Q.  Any advice for other young artists that are thinking about getting into music professionally?

A. Practice, patience, practice

Q. What is your ultimate goal as an artist?
A. My ultimate goal is to have a platinum or gold album.
